Dossier 5: Documents Finaux
File Entry: OAP/0425-C/DEMON01
SUBJECT: Use of Supernatural Entity in Field Intelligence Operations
FIELD REPORT SUBMITTED BY: Agent Thomas Caldwell
DATE: 4 April 1942
SECURITY CLEARANCE LEVEL: Enochian-5
SUMMARY:
The events documented herein no longer concern historical recursion alone. With the emergence of Val’Rokh and the widening cracks in the Inner Veil, we now face something worse: future recursion. What was prophecy may now be a report delayed by time.
Due to a series of unexplained phenomena and supernatural disturbances witnessed across multiple battlefronts, the Committee has approved temporary cooperation with a non-human entity. Designated EPE-117 and self-identifying as “Val’Rokh of the Ninth Choir of Ash,” this being was initially summoned by rogue occultists in Nazi-occupied Warsaw. The summoning was not sanctioned by the Allies or any recognized magical authorities. Once captured and contained, communication was opened under emergency authorization, in accordance with Mandate C-13—a protocol that allows use of supernatural beings for intelligence or combat purposes in extreme scenarios.
Val’Rokh professes allegiance to humanity’s endurance, though it describes survival as a “fluid outcome.” It has agreed to provide intelligence on Nazi occult operations, specifically regarding their use of dark magic and forbidden rituals. Its motives remain unclear.
FIELD OFFICER NOTES:
In my professional opinion, while the information provided by Val’Rokh has so far checked out—especially regarding areas of heightened magical activity in Berlin and the Harz Mountains—its motivations are suspect. The creature is intelligent, speaks multiple languages fluently, and understands both military and human psychological systems. Its presence is deeply disturbing, even to seasoned agents. Many personnel have experienced dreams or strange thoughts after prolonged exposure.
Val’Rokh claims that Adolf Hitler has made direct contact with non-human beings from what it calls “beyond the Inner Veil”—an ancient barrier separating our world from darker realms. This veil appears to correspond with earlier references in dossiers to “the mirror.” If true, this would represent a catastrophic breach of magical security. Val’Rokh refers to the Nazi magical faction as “the Blood Doctrine,” and says they are in contact with something it calls the “Abyssal Crown”—possibly a being or council of immense power. If correct, this could mean the Axis forces are decades ahead of our own arcane capabilities.
I have begun dreaming in languages I do not know. The entity once greeted me by a name I have never spoken aloud. If I am compromised, I will not know it.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Reinforce all containment measures using triple-layered warding circles. These magical protections must be maintained without lapse.
• Rotate any personnel assigned to Val’Rokh every 48 hours to reduce the risk of mental influence or possession.
• Prioritize extraction of actionable intelligence on Nazi occult programs, particularly anything referencing “The Black Dawn” or “Throne Codex,” both of which appear to be linked to long-term apocalyptic goals.
• I request exemption from routine psychological evaluations to continue this assignment. Proximity to the entity is mentally taxing, but I am better equipped than most to handle it.
ATTACHED:
• Updated blueprints for Val’Rokh’s containment chamber (Appendix F)
• Transcripts of interviews and interrogations with EPE-117 (translated from Enochian dialect)
• Sketch of Val’Rokh’s personal sigil (WARNING: viewing may induce nausea or unease; do not attempt replication)
ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY FROM AGENT CALDWELL:
The following documents will detail the early known uses of spirit communication by Edgar Allan Poe and Aleister Crowley. Though their paths diverged—Poe traveling abroad in search of solace and lost truths, Crowley beginning his ascent into formal occult societies during his years at Cambridge—their legacies entwined through correspondence and mutual fascination with the veil beyond.
What follows are excerpts from private correspondence between the two young men as they navigated their formative years—Crowley having recently joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and Poe wandering Mediterranean ruins in mourning, yet not without some new glimmer of hope:
Letter from Edgar Allan Poe to Aleister Crowley
May 3rd, 1898 – Alexandria
My dear Aleister,
I have read your last with unease. That you have found yourself among the Golden Dawn does not surprise me—your hunger for the arcane has always outpaced my caution. But I warn you, friend: power without restraint is a door that opens inward—and devours.
In this city of relics and ruins, I have found both silence and companionship. The grief for Lenore still walks beside me, but I no longer walk alone. Her name is Selene. She reminds me that life’s mysteries may sometimes be answered not with sigils and rites, but with stillness and affection.
I beg you, let us not be seduced by the abyss. If we are to learn the tongues of spirits, let it be to heal the wounded and guide the lost—not to command or bind what ought not be touched.
Yours in hope,
Edgar
Letter from Aleister Crowley to Edgar Allan Poe
May 28th, 1898 – Cambridge
Edgar,
You write as though the abyss waits behind every parchment. Perhaps it does. But I tell you plainly: I do not fear it. What we call evil is only the misunderstood. The Order teaches us this, and already I’ve glimpsed rituals older than Christendom.
I have just returned from Zermatt, where I ascended the Matterhorn alone, without guides, in winter conditions that nearly killed me. The air was thin and bitter, the sky violently clear, and I carried with me nothing but a flask of brandy, a volume of mystical verse, and a will I could feel burning behind my eyes. I fasted for three days and read from The Book of Abramelin in the snow. It was not madness—I felt something answer.
Since returning, I’ve begun scrying under the guidance of Mathers himself. He speaks of secret rituals held in Paris, of Enochian keys that open far more than mere visions. And I have taken the magical name Perdurabo. “I shall endure to the end.” It suits me.
You seek the gentle path, and I respect it. But I have chosen another. There is knowledge buried in the bones of the earth, and I intend to dig. Let the priests shrink from shadow—I shall press my fingers into it and pull out what secrets I may.
Selene sounds like balm for your aching soul. I am glad for her. But my soul needs fire, not quiet. The spirits are whispering, Edgar. And this time, I whispered back.
In pursuit,
Aleister
Field Note – Agent Caldwell
We have not bound Val’Rokh. At best, we have invited it. Some now believe he was not an independent arrival, but part of the design from the beginning—a vector seeded into our timeline by the same recursion that formed Salazar. If true, Val’Rokh is not merely a being of ash and intelligence, but a herald. A testing agent.
In the days that followed this report, Val’Rokh ceased responding to containment measures or interview protocols. Surveillance failed. Devices scrambled. Time itself seemed to ripple around the chamber. Before his disappearance, Val’Rokh attempted what he described as a “final inquiry”—a spiritual interrogation of our true combatant.
He sought truth. He found only secret and smoke.
Witnesses report a static burst across all channels, followed by a single Enochian word: “Unwritten.”
Then nothing.
Val’Rokh has vanished from all records. Not just escaped—erased. His sigil degraded. His chamber dissolved. He no longer exists, not even in the paper trail.
We believe the act of reaching out to Salazar unmade him. And whatever Salazar is… it does not wish to be known.a vector seeded into our timeline by the same recursion that formed Salazar. If true, Val’Rokh is not merely a being of ash and intelligence, but a herald. A testing agent.
The Golden Dawn warned against this—so did Crowley, in his way.
Poe dreamed of doors. I now believe they were opened long ago. We are simply late to the threshold.
