Seen / Unseen Greenville

I thought I knew my hometown. Then I realized I only knew the visible version of it.

Seen / Unseen Greenville is a longform project exploring how one American city was built—and how its past still shapes who benefits, who struggles, and what gets built today.

Because what’s happening in Greenville is happening in cities all over America.

What’s Going On Here? And Who I Am

A broader introduction to the project, the blog, and why I’m trying to look more honestly at life and place.

Seen / Unseen Greenville: Cherokee Ground Beneath Greenville

Before Greenville was downtown awards, growth rankings, bike trails, and polished marketing, it was already known land.

Rivers were known. Ridges were known. Paths were known. This region was part of an older Indigenous world long before the city we recognize today existed.

In the newest Seen / Unseen Greenville, I explore the Cherokee ground beneath Greenville—how easily modern places forget what came before them, and why understanding that history can make us wiser about the present.

Greenville did not begin with us.

We arrived in the middle of an older story.
